Visit by Al Gore

Today we were visited by Al Gore.

After the seminars on transports of goods Mr. Gore told me about his lost trust in the present president of the United States. Me, and 1200 other Gothenburg people, that is. I hope someone documented that mingle party interview.

Many of us have followed the official statements of Mr Gore for many years and we all agreed that he has never been so outspoken before.

Harald Treutiger, our host, did a good job in finding relaxed questions that still had some edge, when Mr Gore responded. We learned for example about that Mr. Gore prefers fish fore meat and that he makes increasing efforts to walk-the-talk. And, that he feels that the US has not done well during the years of President Bush and the lost years concerning US environmental action.

In the addition the US will lose economic competitiveness by the present extreme dependence of oil and we can not afford that type economic race, when the real challenge is the health of the planet. (That last sentence was my addition.)

The price ceremony was magnificent, a perfect mix of speeches and entertainment, of fun and serious comments. For example the speech of Dan Eliasson, that spanned from his childhoods local fish shop in Kålltorp, to the lack of water in Darfur, felt very personal.

I have never before seen so many people engaged in the environment. Not just the once joining the entertainment but also the seminars, of Volvo trucks and other actors.

I am so glad that I took the time join the event.
