Green corridors

The 2nd Truck and Bus World Forum was held the 8th and 9th of December in Göteborg. The organising committee had managed to attract the very summit level speakers of the HD automotive industry. The Volvo Group CEO Leif Johansson chose to speak warmly about Green Corridors for European HD transports.

For buses, in some areas, high capacity and rapid transports have been realised by separate lanes and priority at traffic lights. Volvo has been pioneering the development since the first Volvo Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) that was realised by Enrico Peñalosa already in 1975.

What our CEO now proposed, together with partners, was to take this development one step further. By separating heavy transports from other traffic several gains are achieved for the society:

– Less hazardous emissions

– Shorter time for transports

and most importantly

– Safer transports

 
With the values for society in focus the cost efficiency will improve. The corridors will enable use of vehicles with increased capacity that in turn will increase the fuel efficiency and cost efficiency. Truck trains can decrease the aerodynamic losses and in the cities the corridors can combine with BRT bus lanes.
